Antlers Fire Department begins Hazmat Training

Antlers Fire Department is about to begin Hazmat training. All of our firefighters have Hazmat Awareness level training and a few have Hazmat Operations. The new Hazmat training project will begin in August and after it's completion we will have a Hazmat Technician level team. We will be one of the few fire departments that have a full technician level team. Listed below is the different training levels for Hazmat:

Hazmat Awareness - Teaches the fire fighter to recognize a Hazmat incident, establish a safe perimeter, perform evacuations, and contact the necessary support personnel.
Hazmat Operations - Teaches the fire fighter to contain spills using defensive measures such as damming and diking.
Hazmat Technician - Teaches the fire fighter to contain spills and leaks using offensive measures such as patching, turning off valves, overpacking, etc.
