Let's face it, text messaging is almost the primary means of comunication these days. The Antlers Fire Department is now testing software that will allow dispatch to page us via text messaging in addition to the traditional radio page. The Antlers Fire Department has been working on Sirens since June of 2008, even though the new sirens are state of the art, there have been several technical problems with the sirens activating at the wrong time.
The sirens are radio controlled, similar to the way we dispatch the Volunteer Fire Departments and Antlers Fire/EMS when fire calls and ambulance runs are reported, therefore on four occasions the sirens have sounded accidentally when a fire call has been paged out.

On 1/16/08, Antlers Fire/EMS took possession of a State of Oklahoma Regional EMS response trailer. The trailer is equipped to provide regional support for mass casuality incidents across Region 5. The trailer has enough equipment to care for over 50 patients. It contains items such as backboards, splinting equipment, IV fluids, BLS and ALS jump packs, scene lighting, oxygen, and much more. <p>Villages, cities and counties across Ohio are laying off employees and reducing services to make ends meet.</p>
<p>The Athens County village of Jacksonville, population 560, took the unusual step of rolling a firetruck out of the station and returning it to the dealer.</p>
<p>No longer able to afford the $17,000 annual lease-purchase price, village officials recently returned the keys to a 2001 firetruck.</p>

<P lang="en-US">Mar. 13--A 30-year-old Abington-area man will serve six to 23 months in Lackawanna County Prison for stealing more than $50,000 from a fire company's relief association in Newton Twp.</p><br />
<P>Frederick W. Summerhill of 1907 Newton-Ransom Blvd. was sentenced Friday for writing nearly 100 checks to himself between November 2006 and October 2008, when he was treasurer of the Newton Ransom Volunteer Fire Company's relief association.</p><br />

<p lang="en-US"> Mar. 13--GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP -- A Milan man was charged with failure to control Friday morning after the Ferrellgas truck he was driving overturned on Ohio 61.</p>
<p> Kenneth A. Munns, 29, of 58 Cherry St., was heading south about 9:30 a.m. when he went off the right side of the road and overcorrected, said Trooper Rebecca Wellner, of the state Highway Patrol.</p>

<P lang="en-US">Mar. 12--The roof on the recently condemned Norton fire station on Greenwich Road came crashing down Thursday.</p><br />
<P>Authorities say they think it happened around 2 p.m., although no one was there when it happened.</p><br />
<P>"It fell in this time," fire Chief Mike Schultz said. "The [roof on the] west side of the building completely collapsed. The entire roof is now in the EMS bays."</p><br />
<P>The building was vacated Feb.</p>

<p>The firefighter, whose name was not released Saturday morning, was in the Bradley area on a rescue mission when a boat that he and several other firefighters were in turned over.</p>

<p>A Harper Woods fire captain remains suspended while the city manager investigates two incidents, including one where the captain lost control of a fire hose that was being checked for trouble.</p>
<p>That incident caused a surge of water to break at least one window at the police station and glass to hit a police sergeant in the eye.</p>
<p>Capt. Michael Head was suspended this week. It was still being determined Friday how long he would be suspended and whether the suspension would be with or without pay, City Manager Jim Leidlein said.</p>

A tractor-trailer carrying $70 million in Florida Lottery tickets ignited Thursday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Marion County.

The truck was carrying a load of $20 scratch-off tickets when it ignited in the southbound lanes. At least one lane remained closed through 10 p.m., according to Marion County Fire Rescue.
